Brand ideas continued again and again...

After researching the Tram Lines festival I liked their poster campaign showing how it free for all the people in sheffield and they did this by using photos and the name of the persons in the photo. I thought to make sure people know its a community event taking place held by 'Alight' that a drawing of arms all linked together could represent members of the community coming together as one for the events, the events them selves if I took out a few arsm for the drawings. This would most likely create a triangle as there would be 3 arms one for each event.

I like the idea of maybe creating the letter 'A' for 'Alight out of this and seeing how that could look.
I could possibly produce that by using screen printing and using a wide range of colors for the different events.

On this Idea I though it would be good to look at Sheffield and the venues for some of the events taking place for the 'Alight' music celebration. I went around sheffield and took some pictures of the venues, I think tried to make them into black and white images just using the shadows thinking that this could be used for a screen printing process. I also liked the idea of a continuous line which draw out the shape of the buildings and the name of the brand 'Alight'

I thought this could be done and made to look as though it was neon light bars and could be done and produced in a variety of colors for each of the 3 events through out the day.

Brand ideas continued again...

Here I wanted to look at the use of light and dark and the use of inverted text. To show the light shining from the dark almost. I wanted to test this type face out to see how well it would flow and how legible it was to a viewing audience. I also wanted to see how well an 'A' on its own would work as a brand entity its self. I see this type face may not be the one to take forwards to my final ideas but I light the way the fest flows and is jointed together like the community would be taking part within the festival its self.

Brand ideas continued

Again looking at the route of using light I thought it could be interesting to make the filament of a light bulb right the brand name 'Alight' and maybe make this glow to make a picture of this. I thought you could do this my bending wire into the shape 'Alight' and then maybe heating the wire up till it glowed and photographing this.

This ended up being alot hander than I imagined, as you can see I attempted to start bending some wire to write alight but it is not very easy to read and there for wouldn't make an effective brand if it was unreadable to the viewing audience.

Band Ideas

My first idea for the brand was to look at the color spectrum and how white light is made up of several different colors, this I feel could be representing the Sheffield diverse community and how everyone is coming together to create one event light all the different colors come together to create one color light.

I also felt that the event  being called 'Alight' the route and idea of light being used interesting

Brand Statement

I want my brand to accessible to all ranges of Age, Class and Cultures, within the Sheffield community. I want it to be bright and distinctive reconisable at a glance to be memorable and show that its a one off event. It will represent Sheffield's culture and a celebration of Music and Performing Arts. I will consider using bright distinctive colors and and use 3 separate colors to represent the 3 individual events happening at different times through out the day.

Research into other Music events in Sheffield

To help with my design ideas I felt it would be a good idea to research into other music events that take place in Sheffield to see how they visually represent their festival and Sheffield city its self.

I firstly looked at Tram lines Festival which takes place in Sheffield. I looked at their website and printed promotional work for the festival. as well as their brand design.

Here are two versions of the branding for the Music event Tram lines. I really like how the design has taken the thought and visual of actual tram tracks at a junction to create a Logo for the letter 'T' to sand for the Tram lines festival. I also like How the design also used a fragmented type face to represent tram track as well for the name ' Tam lines' I think this is a very clever piece of design and helps the audience recognize and remember the event from seeing just the letter 'T'. I would like to achieve something similar with the 'Alight' branding working with the letter 'A'.

Here Is how the logo and branding is used in a flyer/poster for the event which I feel helps create a great visual for the event and is very memorable.

Here is another flyer/poster created for the event this time using just typography for the acts playing in this events at Soyo Bar. In like how they used different colors for different artists to make each act sound out with out the colors clashing with one another creating a pleasing vivid visual  for the view. It also shows how the branding can sit within a pice of printed design work.

The 4 images above are a 3rd example of flyers and print design work for the Tram Lines festival. I like how they have made an effective visual showing it is a musical event with instruments and amplifiers in the design work. I also like how they have just used the 'T' from the brand design to show it is linked to the Tram lines festival.

Finally this is a poster campaign for the festival showing it is free for every body. They have done this by  over laying text saying "free for....( insert a name)" over a picture of the supposed person who is named. They have made several of these in the series and placed them in different advertising spaces around the city also printed them in different sizes. I like how this shows its a free event and integrates into the community of sheffield. The only thing I feel is missing from this design is showing that it is a musical event!
